With Winter upon us, color palettes are much more subdued in tone, with darker and richer hues, dabbling in deep red, purple, gray and the all-year-round classic black. I’m happy to start 2017 on the right foot, with a collaboration that’s a step in the right direction – to the nearest Shoe Mart store. 🙂
The New Collection at Shoe Mart had me literally spoilt for choice with a myriad of designs and colors that got me making beelines for the shelves and grabbing shoes left, right and center like a crazy lady during DSF. But as a woman on a mission, in the end I fell in love with four gorgeous pairs of footwear and hunted down four handbags to marry them with. Here are the looks I styled featuring the Shoe Mart products that made it to my closet.
Look 1 – Monochrome In The City
The first look is a juxtaposition of whimsy in the ruffled sleeves and puffy skirt, with the edginess of monochrome and geometric lines. Up your game with these grid mesh high heels that’s a cross between stilettos and booties. Soften the look with an elegant handbag that features a dainty circular metal clasp.
I definitely took a risk on this ensemble that I pulled together to match the shoes and handbag from Shoe Mart. The sleeves along with the skirt seemed to overpower my petite frame but it worked, don’t you think? 🙂 I felt almost like a flamenco dancer lost in the city. It’s 2017, and I plan to take more risks this year. You never know until you try, right?!
Look 2 – Playing With Textures
When it comes to the art of mixing and matching I often take it quite literally. For my second look I’m twinning with the colorblock suede shoulder bag from Shoe Mart, in a lush velvet bodysuit and box pleated skirt, and suede waist belt to pull it all together. Short or tall, big or small, there’s one thing that will fit us all: a pretty pair of shoes. Absolutely adore playing matchmaker to these pointed geometric laser cut high heels and suede shoulder bag. And I have a sweet spot for purple! 💕
“A woman carries her clothes, but it’s the shoes that carry a woman!” – Christian Louboutin. This top-to-toe look is a play on textures and an amalgamation of neutrals with a subtle pop of color. There’s a trend epidemic of velvet and suede this Winter season, and it’s downright contagious!
Look 3 – Color On The Block
When it comes to choosing handbags I often gravitate towards a solid color in a classic shape with a minimalistic design. For this third look I chose a royal blue shoulder bag with subtle geometric detail from Shoe Mart, which perfectly complemented my colorblock dress, and just about most of the pattern dresses in my closet that fall within a similar color spectrum.
“I don’t pick shoes to match my outfit, I choose an outfit that goes well with my shoes!” 🙂 The defining moment I had first laid eyes on these posh ankle strap sandals, I literally fell ‘head over heels’ with its unique combination of blue, beige and a dash of neon. My mind was a whirlwind of outfit ideas by the time I walked out of the store!
It is said that the suit can make the man, but it is the shoes that make the woman. Whenever have you looked down at a man’s feet and said “OMG I love your shoes!”, not to say men’s shoes are boring, they can be cute, but come on, you’d never call them ‘beautiful’, would you? 🙂 Wear your lady lucks with pride, strut it, flaunt it, because the right pair of shoes will take you places, Cinderella can testify!
Look 4 – Date With Destiny
The eloquence of your body language is greatly determined by the shoes that lift you off your feet. My fourth and final look featuring these faux fur high heels and croc textured handbag from Shoe Mart can take you from sundown to starry-starry night. If you’re preparing for a date, the worse thing to do is wear uncomfortable shoes, because it will manifest in the way you move, and nothing spoils a romantic mood more than sore feet. Unless he offers to give you a foot rub! 🙂
“Watch me walk away…” whispered the tiny temptress. Laced-up back, soft to the touch, adorned with ringlets of gold. I found myself unable to avert my gaze. The devil is in the details and this enticing piece of footwear is no exception, with 360 degree intricacies that will make you want to “wear this, and only this”.
Date Night Mantra: When your shoes and handbag make a statement, keep your outfit simple with a slice of sultry. There’s nothing wrong with a monochromatic look when the colors are subdued and the silhouette is a classic. Also, an unyielding pair of Spanx and some practice holding your breath never hurt anyone! Hahaha! 🙂
