Luxury Meets The Everyday Fashionista

In June of 2011, the official announcement that Versace was to design an exclusive collection for Swedish retailer H&M came as an unexpected surprise. And now, just two months away, the wait is almost over.

“I am thrilled to be collaborating with H&M and to have the opportunity of reaching their wide audience. The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere.” – Donatella Versace

The Fall Line of Versace for H&M will wreak havoc when it hits the stores on November 17, much like the riot caused by the previous Lanvin ♥ H&M collaboration. Versace for H&M kicks it up a notch by bringing the collection to 300 stores worldwide, compared to the 200 stores within Lanvin ♥ H&M’s distribution last year.

What to expect come Fall 2011: lots of leather, studs, prints, high heels, tailored suits and statement jewelry – a blast from the past, reinstating Versace’s former glory.

The collection will include 40 iconic pieces for women, 20 for men, and a few signature home pieces, such as bedspreads and cushions, a first for H&M.

“Versace is one of the most important brands of recent times, and their collection for H&M will be glamorous and flamboyant — everything Versace stands for. Donatella Versace is sharing with us iconic designs from the archives.” – Margareta van den Bosch, H&M Creative Advisor.

Here’s Donatella Versace looking very Rock n’ Roll in an H&M piece from the upcoming collection, on the runway of the Versace Men’s Collection last June.

And to whet your appetites further, a first look at the Versace for H&M Ad Campaign has been released which features Abbey Lee Kershaw.

In a statement made by Donatella Versace in 2008 to New York Magazine, she had expressed her reluctance to bring the Versace luxury brand into the mass market:

“I respect everyone who does it. But the reason I didn’t do it is because I work very hard to put the Versace line in the luxury section. I think to put the Versace line in H&M would confuse the brand.”

But the winds have changed course, and as eager fans are at vigil counting down the days, a Limited Edition Pre-Spring Collection is already in the works, to be sold in selected countries come January 19, 2012.
